Google-a-palooza
Google-a-paloozaCities across America are falling all over one another trying to impress Google. They want Google to plunk down one of its first super high speed fiber optic networks in their town. It means lots of jobs to build the network and, when it’s done, it means internet speeds that are 100 times or more [...]

Had to get out of bed and workout this morning- yesterday morning when the alarm went off, I had every intention of getting up and getting on the bike.  But I didn't, I slept in until 6 and then got up and read for an hour (exercising my mind!).  Tonight I'll miss my cycling class, [...]

Time to Locate that Jaw
We play the band Snow Patrol here at Triple M.   I can't say I'm a huge fan of the band, but I don't mind their music.  I guess that's not much of an endorsement, but maybe I'll start liking their music  a lot more because it  might start sounding better. Why?Apparently, lead singer Gary Lightbody has [...]

…that Bruce Springsteen stole the show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concert.  He played an epic set, covering the Clash’s “London Calling”, dueting with RATM’s Tom Morello on “The Ghost of Tom Joad”, plus he had John Fogerty and Darlene Love join him for duets as well.  The November 15th Bradley Center show, “Born To Run” in its entirety!, is certain to be another crowd-pleaser.

ALIENSIt’s back to the 1980’s again for a trip down Halloween memory lane. This time I got my best  friend Gale in on the fun..with cool space age costumes created out of garbage bags. We had a great time hitting the bars in Stevens Point..although one person did say “Gee I wish I could have a costume made out of a Hefty bag,” in a not-so-complimentary voice.

You may have wondered where I got the inspiration for these high fashion costumes. Did you guess A Flock of Seagulls? Watch this video and prepare to be amazed! (I can’t say for sure where I got the idea for the alien make-up…but you can tell I was more into it than Gale!)

As the World Series between the Phillies and Yankees heats up, two key players from Philadelphia had a chance to have a little fun.  I think this would be a great fantasy baseball camp.

pumpkinSome Freakfest alternatives!

1) Beakers and Broomsticks, from 5:30-8pm Friday at the Madison Children’s Museum. With music, a costume parade, wacky experiments and more. Tickets required.

2)Ben Folds at Overture Hall, Friday at 7:30pm. He plays piano as if it were a contact sport! One of two people this weekend that makes me wish I would have stuck with piano lessons.

3) The Jimmys at the Harmony Bar Saturday night. Piano driven blues!  It’s the Jimmy’s Helloween special..and could be scary! The other guy that makes me wish I would have listened to my mom and practiced the piano.

Freaky Band Name of the Week: Hypnopotamus Saturday night at 9pm at the Brink Lounge. Funk, soul, &  jazz from right here in Madtown!

Vampires are always nicely dressed.  I picture an Armani suit whenever I think of vampires.  Things are much tougher for the werewolf.  However, it appears things are starting to change…

It’s pumpkin carving time again. I’m not so good at this. First, I can barely remove the top properly to even begin carving. Then I hate scooping out all the pumpkin guts, although I DO like to roast the seeds. If you ever saw one of my carvings, you’d ask me how old the little child was that did it and were they even old enough to handle a sharp knife.

And that leads me to some carvings I found on line. First, for the hot dog lovers.. hotdogpumpkin

liberty pumpkin

For the anniversary of Lady Liberty’s dedication! And finally, one that totally blows my mind!

Cats-in-the-WindowLet’s hope no one takes THESE pumpkins out and throws them on the ground.

Have fun carving!

kittyhalloweenWhen I was in my 20’s, I really got into Halloween. I guess you could call them my Roaring 20’s!

In 1983, I came up with this great idea. I wanted to dress as one of the characters from the musical “Cats,” but didn’t want to spend the money on fake fur..plus my mom said it was hard material to work with. So…

The obvious answer was to make my costume a “Cat” from outer space! My mom made the silvery part of the costume…the leopard print shirt was a 70’s leftover from my older brother.  I even created the ears out of the shirt’s collar.

This gives me an idea for the next Broadway revival!  “Cats”..but with a retro modern feel. I bet Jane and Judy Jetson could do a heckuva version of “Memories.”

I knew that “Who Says” was so much more than a tune about smoking weed.  It’s always more than that, right?  In this brief Rolling Stone piece, John compares the down slope of a relationship to a vulgar, violent war.  So, I guess we can all hear what breaking up with Jennifer Anniston does to a person…
