foodMy workouts seem to be getting better and better at Capital Fitness.  They’re still very tough and my heart is pumping pretty fast by the time I’m done with my workout session, but it’s a good tired.  Does that make sense?

After the workout is over, I don’t want to curl up in bed.  I want to get out and do more.  You’ve heard the expression: “A body in motion stays in motion”.  It’s true!

I’ve also found that my desire for total junk food out of the vending machine is fading fast.

Can it last?  Stay tuned…

In the meantime, why don’t you at least take a look at what Capital Fitness has to offer.

balanceI’ve begun my journey of getting in better shape at Capital Fitness in downtown Madison.  I’ve enlisted a couple of trainers at the club, Brian and Pete to help me out.

So is this going to work?

At first I thought there was no way.  Pete and Brian had me do some simple things like closing my eyes and standing on one foot or walking in place with my eyes closed.  I wasn’t that good at it and no I didn’t have anything to drink before hand.

Why was this hard?  Brian and Pete explained to me that a lot of muscles in my body weren’t being used properly and in some cases they weren’t being used at all.  Therefore other muscles were picking up the slack and that what was making me unbalanced…literally.

Think about it.  The way you sit at your desk everyday can have a big impact on your body.  They found that I wasn’t sitting up straight so certain muscles were becoming weaker and weaker.

They’ve started me with some simple exercises like stepping one foot onto a step stool and then stepping down.  Sounds simple, but I found doing it ten times in a row was a bit tiring.  However, it helped me create a little better balance and started to activate muscles in my legs and butt.

I’ll continue to update you on my progress, but in the meantime why not take a peak at what Capital Fitness has to offer.  Click here!

6leonardSo I’ve been working out for a couple of weeks now at Capital Fitness and I have to admit I’m surprised at how good I already feel.  I’ve been working with a couple of personal trainers named Pete and Brian.  You may recall that about two weeks ago they ran some simple tests for me. It seemed like really basic stuff like marching in place with my eyes closed or swinging my hips back and forth.

What I discovered was that I was using a lot of the wrong muscles for simple movements.  It’s not going to change overnight, but I have noticed some differences already.  For example, I’ve been doing some basic exercises to wake up the muscles in my back.  To be honest, I didn’t even know I had that many muscles in my back!

Since the workouts began, I’ve noticed that I’m already sitting a lot taller when I’m working at my desk.  I’ve also noticed a whole lot more energy in general.

I can’t imagine what will happen when I actually start to lose some inches of my waist!!!!

Stay tuned….

treatment-06I now think I know how a race horse may feel.  I’m pretty excited about starting a new workout program at Capital Fitness in downtown Madison.  I’ll get into all the details about my workout in the upcoming months, but I just have to share with you the experience of getting evaluated by a personal trainer.

I’ve worked out a ton in the past by myself, but this is the first time I decided to try using a trainer.  I expected someone who had giant muscles and a tiny head to be yelling in my face that I should lift another 500 lbs faster and that I must have “The Eye of the Tiger” in order to have success.

I couldn’t be more wrong.

I met with Brian and Pete who are two guys who are in shape, but definitely not total muscle heads.  I  think the most imagesinteresting part was that in my initial evaluation they had me do a few simple things like:

1) March in place with my eyes closed

2) Hold a pole above my head and then bend my knees

3) Get on all fours and stretch out my right hand and my left leg at the same time.

The list went on and on.  Nothing was strenuous and they both had clipboards and would occassional whisper to each other and write things down.

It didn’t make me feel self-conscious.  I was actually more curious.  Here are a few of the things I found out:

1) I have poor balance

2) I’m not very flexible

3) I’m out of shape

They explained to me that the way your body moves is just as important as the exercises you are trying to do.  In other words, simply running five miles on a treadmill may not be the best way to get in shape and whatever exercise you’re doing proper form is a must.

body-healthI’ve heard people tell me I have bad form before, but that was usually at dinner parties.  Stay tuned to find out how I’ll go from a guy with poor balance and stiff joints to a new and improved guy who can touch his toes easily and have a lot more energy.
