We dug deep to find this week’s photo for your captions and, as always, you were all up to the challenge, so let’s just get right to it. Although I was surprised there were no tattoo-tutu comments.

As always, we start with the honorable mentions:

We start with Jen, because I always love a good play on words:

Can we practice that song again? In A-Miner this time?

I loved Ann’s simple response as well:

  Your pliés or… mine?

 Philip goes artistic!

Near the end of his life, 19th Century French impressionist Edgar Degas gave up painting lithe, nubile ballerinas and believed that he was one.

 As did James:

Harold was excited to get the part of the Fairy Princess in the Ballet of Appalachia’s production of “Hall of the Mountain King”.

Greg’s was great simply for even mentioning Tennessee Ernie Ford!

“Tennessee Ernie Ford Days are always a fun time- especially the mine tours….”

Our first runnier up is Geno:

Now if I had my “pick”, I’d take a Kentucky coal miner every time! Those West Virginia miners are such “Prima Donna’s!

And our winner of this awesome Wisconsin Dells prize package is….Anne!!

Grover knew he had to keep his love of ballet on the down-low. The very, very down-low.

Well, the first week of the return of the caption contest went great! Thanks to everyone who participated. And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the WINNERS!

We start with honorable mentions:

Jen, with this age old question:

Does this eyeball make me look fat?

And Peter, with a similar theme:

Does this skirt make my eye look big?

Then we had Mike with his scientific response:

No matter where you are in the room, it seemed like Helen was always looking right at you.

I liked Andy’s caption because of my love of Ed Wood:

Remember, Big Brother is watching…and drinking…and dancing…and cross dressing.

On to our FIRST RUNNER UP: Kurt who could have a career in advertising.

Alka-Seltzer: When your eye is bigger than your stomach!

And the winner of these fabulous prizes is… Robbie!

“I tried this new product that claims to make your eyes look bigger and sexier,” said Laura, “but the results are not quite what I expected.”

Thanks everyone. Look for a new photo on Wednesday!

Wow wow wow! That’s my review of Phish at Alpine valley on Saturday night.

This marked my 16th year of going to Phish concerts and if I say this was one of  THE BEST I’m not exaggerating.

First step to enjoying Alpine was the VIP parking pass I purchased for $30, which is the only way to handle that parking lot hassle at the end. I was pretty excited to bring my friend Scott along with us for his first Phish concert.  I head to Will Call and we started walking down to our sets… and down… and down until we are on the freakin’ floor, maybe ten rows from the stage, way over on the side.

I’m stoked and ready to see “my boys”. The show started off with Tube ,which happens to be the very first song I ever saw Phish perform live back in 1994. It started strong and they never let up that first set. I don‘t think I have ever heard the band sound so tight. I guess growing up and getting sober is a good thing.

A high point for me was Page taking center stage and singing his jazzy “Lawn Boy” and “Sparkle” which took us to heights of rock ecstasy.

Now, I’m not getting any younger and I’m not in the best physical shape and it was hot, but I danced and boogied more than I have in, well since the last Phish concert!

Second set included some of my favorite songs, “Down with Disease”,  “Weekapaug Groove” and their cool cover of “ Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley”.

We were close enough to be bathed by the lights of the stage, which was cool and finally, I was in the middle of the glow stick “war”. I was lucky enough to catch this lovely necklace.

An encore while short and only one song, “Quinn the Eskimo”, was a prefect end to this totally rocking show.

Then, of course, we had to get out of the parking lot. VIP only took 30 minutes rather than 90, so all in all and perfect evening.

I can’t wait for next summer.

Posted in: Music in general

Last summer I, of course, went to Alpine Valley to see Phish, the only band that I will go see at Alpine. It wasn’t just another concert for me, but it was my sweetie Tim’s FIRST SHOW! Of course, he has heard me play them all the time and listened to all my stories about the band. He’s a big music fan, so I knew he would love it as much as I did. I was right. So when we had an opportunity to see them again the next month at the final show of the summer tour at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, we jumped at the chance.

The night before, we had been at the 40th anniversary Woodstock Concert, but were totally ready to see Phish.  I love SPAC. It’s like a smaller Alpine and my favorite venue so I was excited to share it with Tim.

We left with plenty of time to get to the venue and seriously crowd watch. We get about 5 miles from SPAC to see signs that said all the parking lots were full. As we inched our way closer, I could see kids hiking towards the show. I lean out and ask someone where were they were sending us to park and he said a couple of miles away.

Well, I’m not a kid anymore, it was hot, humid and looked like it was gong to pour any minute, so we decided to just skip it and sell my tickets, which were in the SECOND ROW!!!! Tim was worried we wouldn’t be able to sell them, but I said, just pull over. So we pull into this parking lot, I unroll the window and hold the tickets out. Immediately, a couple of kids run over and ask “Are they in the pavilion?” “ Dude” I said, “They’re I the second row”. He handed me a $100 bill. “ Plus $20 for handling charges?” He gave me another 20 and I swear his feet weren’t touching the ground he was so excited.

I was happy to give someone an experience he never imagined, plus, if I had gotten my tickets for free  (which I usually do) I would have GIVEN them to him!

So I took the kids money, went right to Best Buy and bought an Altec Lansing iPod docker, a pair of headphones and still had money left to download the show the next day. All in all, it was win win for everyone!

But NOTHING is going to stop me from being at Alpine on Saturday night.
